The Welsh National team will face Sweden this evening at home, and with both teams vying for qualification to move onto the playoffs, the clash looks to be heating up. Ahead of both teams’ second Nation’s League clash, here’s a preview of what you can expect from today’s match!

Wales come into this match off the back of a 1-0 loss away against Italy, where an early goal from Barabara Bonansea gave Italy the three points. However, Wales had over 50% of the possession in the match, highlighting that with a few more chances and attempts on goal, they could complete a good run in their Nation’s League campaign. Standout players for this team include Carrie Jones, who scored Wales’ winning goal against Ireland for the team to qualify for this summer’s Euros. However, it will be interesting to see how this Welsh team will face against Sweden who are ranked number 5 on the FIFA world rankings.

Sweden’s victory over Denmark puts them in a great place going into this away fixture. They’re currently at the top of Group A on goal difference, meaning that another victory would put them far in front of Italy (who are in second) and on their way to qualifying for the playoffs. A handful of standout players from the current Swedish team are Stina Blackstenius who is having a great WSL season with Arsenal, and Fridolina Rolfo who has scored 5 goals this season for Barcelona.

It will be interesting to see how Wales fares against this Swedish squad, but the home support at Stok Racecourse, Wrexham will hopefully give them a boost, and spur them on in their efforts to qualify for the playoffs. If you’re not in attendance at Stok Racecourse this evening, the match is available to watch on BBC iPlayer, with kick off at 7:15pm!
