England are set to face Spain at Wembley Stadium this Wednesday in the second round of the UEFA Women's Nation's League A Group 3. England hope to seek revenge with a win against the Spanish side after being defeated in the World Cup final back in 2023. Here is everything you need to know leading up to the match:
Recent Statistics:
England are looking to 'do better' in their game against Spain after their disappointing one-all draw with Portugal last week. They have a total of two wins in their last five games, the rest all being draws apart from their 4-3 loss against Germany back in October of 2024.
We can expect to see Spain coming into this game with confidence due to their 3-2 win over Belgium last week. They have a total of three wins in their last five games, the rest being losses.
Team News:
England will be without Beth Mead this game in result of her pulling out of the squad due to injury just before the sides clash against Portugal. Lauren Hemp, Alex Greenwood and Georgia Stanway will also not be seen due to not being called up as a result of injuries sustained during club matches.
The opposing team will be without star striker Alexia Putellas due to her being ruled out for three weeks with an ankle inury.
Players to watch:
Spain's Claudia Pina is in excellent form at the moment, scoring in her last two games for the side. The winger has a 7.72 percent FotMob rating for the 24/25 Liga F season, starting 14 games and proving 4 goals for FC Barcelona.
On the contrary, Arsenal and England Striker Alessia Russo has been in stellar form these past few months. Scoring 13 goals for her club in just 28 appearances and giving England the draw in their previous clash, she is a pivotal player up front and is definitely one to watch.
Predicted Line-ups:
A potential lineup for the Lionesses could see the XI in a 4-3-3 formation, offering a balanced approach to both the attacking and defensive side.
Earps (GK), Bronze, Williamson (C), Bright, Charles, Toone, Walsh, Clinton, Kelly, Russo James.
A potential lineup for Spain could be very similar to that of the 2023 World Cup final, using a 4-3-3 formation to, similar to their opposition, offer a balanced approach to both the attacking and defensive side.
Coll (GK), Batlle, Parades, Aleixandri, Ouahabi, Bonmati, Abelleira, Lopez, Caldentey, Paralluelo, Pina.
England v Spain will be kicking off at Wembley Stadium on Wednesday, Febuary 25 at 8pm GMT.
