Will Wück’s Team Deliver at Home?

Germany and Austria meet on Tuesday night in Nuremberg for their next Nations League match in Group A. When the game kicks off at 17:15, Germany will look to repeat their recent success against their southern neighbour, having won both of their Euro 2025 qualifiers with a combined score of 7-2.
Currently, Austria leads the Group A table after securing three points against Scotland in their opening match of the competition. Germany, on the other hand, managed to grab only one point against a very strong Dutch side.
Germany's coach, Christian Wück, will manage his sixth game, hoping to secure his first home win. However, their last match exposed a key weakness, defensive struggles. One player who could play a significant role in strengthening this area is 28-year-old Manchester City player Rebekka Knaak, who made her international debut against the Netherlands and impressed with her performance at the back.
While Germany’s goalkeeper position is in good hands with Gotham FC’s Ann-Kathrin Berger, Eintracht Frankfurt’s Stina Johannes, and FC Bayern’s Ena Mahmutović, they suffered a setback with one of their rising stars, Sophia Winkler, sustaining a serious knee injury during this national camp. For this game against Austria, Wück will put his trust in Johannes, as Berger, who started against the Netherlands, is out sick.
Overall, though, Germany’s attacking power will be a tough challenge for the Austrian team.
Alexander Schriebl’s Austria will enter this game with high motivation, currently sitting at the top of the table and coming off a win against Scotland. However, they must be mindful of Germany’s determination, as they are eager to secure three points in the Nations League race. Austria can rely on their defense, with players like St. Pölten’s Claudia Wenger and West Ham’s Verena Hanshaw, as well as a strong and reliable goalkeeper in Arsenal’s Manuela Zinsberger.
On the offensive side, Austria will face some challenges, as key players Barbara Dunst and Eileen Campbell are out injured. This will be a big blow for the Austrian team, as both were instrumental in their recent performances against Germany.
This game will be Germany’s first home match of the year, and they will also use it to debut their new Euros away kit.
With both teams coming in strong and hungry for points, this game is set to be an exciting battle in Nuremberg. Austria will look to hold onto their top spot, while Germany is determined to deliver a statement win in front of their home crowd.
