FA Cup Match Preview: Portsmouth v Sunderland

Sunderland thumped Exeter 7-1 in the 4th round of the FA Cup and beat Southampton 2-0 in the Championship, however lost 1-0 to Birmingham. Sunderland sit 6th in the Championship with 21 points, missing out on fifth place due to their Goal Difference. Youngster Mary McAteer is certainly a star for the future. The young Welshwoman signed for SAFC at the start of the 23-24 season and scored 6 goals in her debut season in the Championship. Ahead of the successful campaign, she made her national debut for Wales in 2023. Legendary Grace McCatty is also a key player for the team. McCatty announced her retirement from professional football back in April 2024, but after 111 times for Sunderland, she has decided to join once again until the remainder of the season. Sunderland will be looking to capitalise on their good form against Portsmouth to progress through to the next round.
The game is set to be played Sunday 9th February with a kick off at 2pm. Westleigh Park is the venue for the FA Cup, and will determine who will progress into the quarter final…
