Another Frauen-Bundesliga clash awaits us on Saturday, February 8, at 13:00. League table 6th SV Werder Bremen will host 8th-placed RB Leipzig at home. Both teams are separated by just one point in the standings. The two sides have already met three times in the league, resulting in one draw and one win for each team. Their last meeting ended with three points for the side from Leipzig.

While Bremen comes off a strong 4:1 victory against last-placed 1. FFC Turbine Potsdam, Leipzig suffered a narrow 0:1 defeat to FC Bayern Munich. Despite not taking any points, Leipzig’s performance was impressive in this game.

The upcoming match promises to be an exciting one, as both teams are fairly evenly matched. Bremen and Leipzig have each won six games this season. Bremen lost five times, while Leipzig picked up their sixth loss last weekend. Offensively, the two teams are also on similar footing, having scored 18 goals each so far. However, Leipzig’s defense conceded a few more, leaving Bremen with a goal difference of -1 compared to Leipzig’s -5.

This match will also be a direct showdown between the goalkeepers of both teams. Livia Peng (Bremen) and Elvira Herzog (Leipzig) are teammates on the Swiss national team, with Herzog recently being named as the first-choice keeper.

Leipzig’s squad looks solid overall, especially in defense, but they face some challenges. Sandra Starke, a key player in her position, is still out injured. To make matters worse, Lou-Ann Joly, who was expected to fill that role, received a red card against Bayern, resulting in a two-game ban. It will be interesting to see how coach Jonas Stephan addresses this gap.

On Bremen’s side, all eyes will be on Lina Hausicke. The 27-year-old captain of the northern German team tore her ACL in 2024 but made her long-awaited return last weekend against Potsdam. Now, she’s set to return to “Platz 11,” her home turf.

Will we see a repeat of the last game, with Leipzig coming out on top, or will Bremen secure three points to celebrate their captain’s return to the home pitch?
