Legendary Manchester City are set to face high flying Ipswich Town on Saturday 11th in the 4th round of the FA Cup at the Joie Stadium. These two sides previously met back in February 2020 in the fifth round of the cup, where City triumphed over the Tractor Girls with a 10-0 win. It’s safe to say that Ipswich are out to make amends for this.

Ipswich currently sit top of the WPL Premier Division South having played 11 games and have gained 29 points so far this season. Having recently announced new assistant manager Lauren Phillips from Southampton, the team seem to be aiming high. Sheehan, Ipswich’s manager, has spoken positively of his assistant coach by highlighting her experience to the BBC.

“She brings such great experience and knowledge into the team and is an outstanding addition to our club”.

Town have many assets to their squad, including Ashtons Legal Player of the Month for December Megan Wearing and top scorer and most capped player Natasha Thomas leading the front line. Thomas, who has been a stand out player for the Tractor Girls was signed by the club as a 19 year old, and within 226 apps for the clubs, she has scored 161 goals. Their recent form in the league has been triumphant, with 5 wins from their last five matches and by defeating Bournemouth 1-0 in the 3rd round of the FA Cup, the wind will surely be in their sails.

Before the winter break, City played their latest match against FC Barcelona where they lost 3-0, and so they’ll be hoping to start back with a bang. Throughout 2024, City had a win percentage of 80.5% with 4 wins out of 6 in the FA Cup and League Cup respectively. With the team being introduced in the 4th round, they’ll be sure to continue this streak. They currently sit 2nd in the WSL with 22 points, trailing by 6 points to league leaders  Chelsea with their eyes next set on derby rivals Manchester United.  Khadija Shaw is leading the way of the top scorers in the WSL having bagged 9 goals so far in this years campaign with Mary Fowler, Jess Park and Jill Roord in second place having scored 3 goals each. Lauren Hemp tops the assists table, with 5 assists being recorded in the WSL. With new signing Rebecca Knaak from Swedish team Rosengard and golden glove winner Khiara Keating, it seems that the odds are in favour with the Sky Blues.

With the game set to kick off at 13.00 and live text, audio and stats being found on mancity.com, it’s safe to say that this will be a match worth the watch.
