RB Leipzig begins the new year with a bang, as they welcome defending Frauen-Bundesliga champions FC Bayern Munich for their first home game of 2025. The match is scheduled for Sunday, February 2nd, at 17:30 UK time.

Under the coaching of Alexander Straus, FC Bayern has suffered only one loss in the Frauen-Bundesliga this season, securing 3 wins in their last 5 matches and drawing 2. They are currently in 2nd place, just behind Eintracht Frankfurt, who are level on points with Bayern, having both accumulated 29 points. Bayer 04 Leverkusen follows closely in 3rd place with the same amount of points.

While FC Bayern Munich remains firmly in the title race, RB Leipzig is focused on establishing themselves in the Frauen-Bundesliga’s top tier, competing in just their second season in Germany’s top league. Leipzig has earned 19 points so far, winning 6 of their league matches, 2 of those in their last 5, while suffering 2 losses and 1 draw. The competition in the middle of the table is equally tight, with just 3 points separating 5th and 8th place. Leipzig currently occupies 6th place.

In their most recent encounter, FC Bayern claimed a dominant 6-2 victory. To date, RB Leipzig has yet to defeat the Bavarian side.

This upcoming match will present a challenge for Jonas Stephan’s team, as Bayern's quality remains extraordinary. Leipzig’s defense will need to stay sharp, as Bayern has netted 33 goals so far this season, resulting in an impressive goal difference of +23. On the offensive end, Leipzig will rely on key players such as number 10 Vanessa Fudalla and number 7 Giovanna Hoffmann to break down Bayern’s defensive line.

Leipzig will be without Lydia Andrade and Sandra Starke for this match, while Bayern will also be missing Georgia Stanway, who recently sustained an LCL injury and will be sidelined for several months. Bayern's first-choice goalkeeper, Mala Grohs, is nearing a potential return after overcoming a cancer diagnosis. She featured in the second half of Bayern’s winter break friendly against Young Boys Bern Women.

Given that the three previous encounters between the two teams have resulted in a total of 16 goals, fans can expect another exciting, high-scoring match. The game will be broadcast live on DAZN at 17:30.
