Emily van Egmond leaves San Diego Wave

Matilda's star Emily van Egmond has announced her departure from San Diego Wave. The 31 year old spent just 2 years at the club, making 61 total appearances, as well as being loaned to Newcastle Jets during the NWSL off season.


In her 14 years playing for the Australian National Team, van Egmond has made 153 appearances, scoring 31 times. 


San Diego Wave placed 10th in the NWSL, just 4 from the bottom of the table, totalling 25 points during 6 wins, 7 draws and 13 losses in the 2024 season, as well as scoring 24 goals, averaging just under 1 goal per game.


Van Egmond is yet to sign a contract with a new club, leaving her as a free agent during the winter transfer window. She has not been linked to any clubs at this time.


She has also played in the WSL for West Ham United, the Frauen Bundesliga for VfL Wolfsburg and Eintracht Frankfurt (formerly 1. FFC Frankfurt) and many other NWSL and A-League sides.


She appeared as part of the Matildas 2023 Women's World Cup squad, as well as their 2024 Summer Olympics campaign.
