Ireland Defender Niamh Fahey Retires at International Level

Todays the day that saw Ireland WNT and Liverpool Defender Niamh Fahey Step Down from International Duties with over 100 Caps to her name, making her a true veteran.


Niamh is a Galway Native and made her first Senior International Debut in March 2007 vs Portugal in the Algarve Cup, after previously representing Ireland at u17 and u19 level. She started her footballing journey at her local club Salthill Devons from 2000-2008 while having a loan spell at Galway, impressively during this time she was also kicking gaelic football for Galway while featuring in a few All-Irelands, in which some of them were won.


After proving herself worthy, Niamh was swiped up by Arsenal in 2008 and made 73 appearances for the Gunners. In 2014 she signed for Chelsea and made 28 appearances for them, while then signing for Bordeaux in 2017 and in 2018 signed for Liverpool where the story continues as a number 5 and also the clubs captain.


Niamh has served as a cool and composed leader at the back for Ireland throughout the years, with her biggest achievement qualifying and playing in the 2023 Fifa Women's World Cup in Australia, where Ireland represented their country with immense pride, making everyone out in Aus and back at home extremely proud.


Niamh Fahey is a heroic role model to every young girl at home who wants to become a footballer and play for Ireland, she is everything that Ireland embodies and more, everybody thanks Niamh for her immense service, dedication and leadership and wishes her all the best with the rest of her career and with life.
